The Social Innovation Fund
(LT)
The Social Innovation Fund (SIF)
was founded and authorised by the Ministry of Justice on
23 of February, 1994 as a non-governmental charity and support fund. The Fund
was established with the support of the Dutch governmental program, “Assistant
in Social Welfare in Lithuania.” The SIF is actively engaged in improving the
conditions and status of unemployed and socio-economical disadvantaged women.
The main areas of activities are to assist them to make positive change in their
lives through provision of educational opportunities, social support,
information and advice. Activities also include lobbying for initiatives and
laws favouring gender equality and human rights and opposing discrimination and
unequal pay for women.
We main areas of training are computer skills, accountancy, social care, and
English language. We have also the extensive experience in the field of
facilitating the return to learning and job market by organising the job-club
activities, mobility training courses and self-supporting groups for women. The
Social Innovation Fund has participated in European collaborative activities and
implemented the innovative training methodology using flexible learning methods
like CD-ROMs and videoconferences. We have participated in six EU Socrates
projects, two EU Phare and two EU Leonardo da Vinci projects.
Our organisation is also very active in the field of gender equality. In 2000
the Social Innovation Fund has initiated the establishment of the informal NGOs
Coalition for the Protection of Women's Human Rights in Lithuania. The aim of
the Coalition is to unite the NGOs in Lithuania in order to put equal rights for
men and women in practice. Today Coalition unites 54 NGOs. The Social Innovation
Fund was approved as a co-ordinator of the Coalition. Promoting women's
participation in political and social life are one of the main topics of our
Coalition's work.
All these make it possible for the Social Innovation Fund to continue an
international dialogue with many organisations in different countries on
solutions to the plight of unemployed women.
